QUINCY — “We almost sold out!” said Virginia Sharrow of Sharrow Farms around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.

It was the first day of Quincy’s Farmers Market in Washington Park. The event is presented by Quincy Medical Group, and it boasts live music and offerings from farms, craftsmen and food establishments. The market takes place weekly on Saturday mornings from May through October.

Next week’s market will have a alternate location at Sixth Street between Maine and Hampshire because of the Bridge the Gap to Health race.

“We had Chinese cabbage, bok choy, lettuce, spinach, asparagus, mushroom, rhubarb and honey,” Sharrow said.

Neat the end of the first day, her table had one serving of asparagus and a a bit of rhubarb left, but everything else was gone.

Sharrow Farms is in Golden, and it has been selling produce at the Quincy Farmers Market for about 15 years. The prices haven’t changed much. Virginia Sharrow sold a dozen farm fresh eggs for only $3.50, certainly less than grocery store prices.

Not all of the vendors are seasoned veterans. Hooked by Holbrook offers crochet crafts created by 14-year-old Leah Holbrook.

“I started crocheting in school around sixth grade. Then, last summer, I just started making bunch of stuff and started doing the Farmer’s Market,” she said.

Her most poplar items are her bracelets and whales, which come in multiple sizes.

Fresh produce and new products abound at the Quincy Farmers Market. Follow the smell of freshly grilled beef, and you may find your new favorite locally grown vegetable, gift or piece of jewelry.
