DAILY DIRT: Boston or New York, ‘Blue’ will continue to be the color of success

Daily Dirt for May 12, 2025
The character of Det. Danny Reagan is scheduled to return to prime time … Welcome to today’s three thoughts that make up Vol. 1,281 of The Daily Dirt.
1. It’s never too early to start get excited about the approaching 2025-26 TV season.
Here are the three new shows I’m most anticipating at this point:
Gold medal: “Boston Blue,” CBS, scheduled to premier this fall (no specific date yet) at 9 p.m. on Fridays. “Boston Blue” is the new “Blue Bloods” spinoff. This show will keep Det. Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) at the forefront of a police drama following his 14-year run on “Blue Bloods”. Not much is known yet about “Boston Blue,” other than it will be set in Boston rather than New York City, and that Sonequa Martin Green has been confirmed as Danny’s new partner. Wahlberg had long been the key to the popularity and success of “Blue Bloods,” so why mess with success? Maybe this new program should have simply been tagged “Blue Bloods II”. Of course, the Wahlberg clan hails from the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston.
Silver medal: “Marshals,” CBS, scheduled to premier midseason at 8 p.m. on Sundays. That’s currently the working title, but not yet cast in stone. What is firm concerns star Luke Grimes, who continues his role of Kayce Dutton from “Yellowstone”. Grimes/Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. marshals, combining “his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense” in that region’s war on violence. Dutton was an enjoyable character on “Yellowstone,” and whether or not he can carry an entire show by himself will be the key. I predict he can, and will.
Bronze medal: “6666,” Paramount+, no premier date or time yet: This the final of what we feel are three can’t-miss shows for next season. This is also another Taylor Sheridan spinoff with “Yellowstone” roots. Any show with Sheridan’s imprint is an automatic success. That’s all you need to know, other than the title is pronounced “Four 6’s” and there will be cowboys and lots of horses.
2. Did you know (Part 360)
- That ABC confirmed last week that “American Idol” has been renewed for another season. It will be Season 9 on ABC and Season 24 overall.
- That when tickled, rats will laugh. No, I’m not kidding.
- That the number four (4) is the only number with the same amount of letters as its value.
- That a dog that is a cross between a Chihuahua and a miniature dachshund is called a chiweenie.
- That no number before 1,000 contains the letter “A” when spelled out.
3. So, just how bad are the Colorado Rockies?
They’re currently on pace to win LESS THAN 30 games. This miserable MLB franchise is headed for its third straight season of more than 100 losses and has not had a winning record since 2018.
