HANNIBAL, Mo. — Hannibal Regional recently welcomed Dr. Chad Brands to its team.

Brands earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Cincinnati. He brings a range of experience in medical education and administrative leadership as a physician. He will lead Hannibal Regional’s newly accredited internal medicine residency program, set to welcome its first class of resident physicians in the summer of 2026.

Internal medicine physicians are equipped to diagnose and treat a wide spectrum of medical conditions, from common illnesses to complex chronic diseases, providing diagnostic and therapeutic medical care for adults. Brands will promote a team-based approach to acute and chronic conditions while guiding and mentoring the development of the next generation of medical students and resident physicians.

In a press release, Brands said, “Hannibal Regional is beginning a new internal medicine program, and medical student graduates will be joining our program and health system while contributing as resident physicians to patient care, education and scholarship as well as the healthcare outcomes in the community and region for years to come.”

Brands previously called the Midwest home and was looking for the opportunity to return.

“I wanted to return to the Midwest and work with an independent healthcare system that is investing in the future of the community and region while equipping the healthcare workforce and building the physician talent pipeline to the future,” he said. “I am excited to be leading the new internal medicine program in Missouri after developing a number of new undergraduate and graduate medical education programs in Florida, Texas and Virginia.”
