United Way needs help with shopping, wrapping gifts for Good News of Christmas campaign
QUINCY — United Way of Adams County is asking for assistance during the holiday season at its Good News of Christmas volunteer center inside the Quincy Town Center. Monetary donations are being accepted, and volunteers are needed to help wrap and shop for gifts.
“Bring your family, friends, church group, co-workers or just yourself and volunteer to help the many families we serve through this wonderful program,” said Jenna Hull, director of programs and services at United Way of Adams County and coordinator for the Good News of Christmas. “Stop by our volunteer center to shop for gifts or wrap presents. Every hour you give is helping make a difference.”
The volunteer center is open through December 15 inside the Quincy Town Center Community Room, Monday through Thursday 5:30-8:30 p.m., Friday noon-3 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays 1-5 p.m. For more information on volunteering or on how to help the campaign, contact Hull at 217-224-1223.
The Good News of Christmas is in its 33rd year of spreading holiday cheer to individuals and families in need. The Herald-Whig has partnered with United Way of Adams County in coordinating the project in recent years. More than $1.75 million, along with countless volunteer hours and services, has been donated to help more than 1,500 families get back on their feet since the campaign’s inception in 1988. Families throughout the Herald-Whig’s circulation area in Illinois and Missouri are selected each year to receive aid by caseworkers familiar with their plights.
