The villages of Clayton, Mendon and Plainville recently were designated as Smart Rural Communities (SRC) by NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association, powered by Adams Fiber. This recognition honors the commitment of the three villages to using advanced technology to drive innovation, improve residents’ quality of life and foster economic growth.

The announcement was made at village board meetings. At the Clayton Village Board meeting, representatives from Adams Fiber presented the honor to Mayor Sam Miller and the village board, at the Mendon Village Board meeting to Mayor David Wittler and the village board, and at the Plainville Village Board meeting to Mayor Chuck Epley and the village board.

“Clayton, Mendon and Plainville have earned the Smart Rural Community distinction thanks to numerous advancements powered by Adams Fiber that date back to our initial introductions of fiber connectivity,” Bridgette Northern, director of marketing at Adams Fiber, said in a press release “We are thrilled to continue to partner with such forward-thinking communities.”

Through the efforts of Adams Fiber, more than $1,332,400 has been invested in state-of-the-art fiber infrastructure in Clayton, $2,155,500 in Mendon and $442,300 in Plainville. These investments empower these villages to elevate education through accessible online learning, boost local businesses by connecting them to new markets and improve healthcare delivery through telehealth services.

This recognition places these villages alongside other forward-thinking communities across America and offers additional benefits, including:

  • A feature on the official Smart Rural Community website,
  • Inclusion in NTCA’s outreach materials,
  • An official Smart Rural Community road sign, a certificate of recognition, and marketing resources to amplify this achievement.

The Smart Rural Community program shines a spotlight on rural areas that leverage broadband technology to promote progress in education, healthcare, economic development and overall quality of life.
