Aedan Michael Denum

Aedan M. Denum, 32, passed away on April 8, 2024 in Quincy, IL. Aedan was the cherished son of Susan Plonka and Michael Denum (Shera), brother of Schaenon (Nathan) Elbus of Quincy and Maelan Denum of Denver, CO., step-brother of Ross Lee and Justine (Zach) Wright, grandson of William (late Frances) Denum of Quincy and late Robert and Margaret Plonka, and beloved uncle to Cole Elbus.

A sensitive soul who wore his heart on his sleeve, Aedan was a poet, with a gift for words and for connecting on a deep level with anyone blessed to engage in conversation with him. No subject was off limits or too deep–he’d go there with you. He had a huge heart, sparkling eyes and the biggest, brightest smile. He was always compassionate to those less fortunate.

An adventurous outdoor lover at heart, he visited many national parks and loved hiking, biking, fishing, camping, kayaking, and rock collecting. Quetico Provincial Park, Ontario and Upper Peninsula Michigan were also special places.

An avid Phish phan, he loved to travel to Phish Phestivals. As Trey Anastasio wrote, “Waves of people come and they go, shine for a while in this marvelous show.” – an apt sentiment for Aedan, as he was a beautiful light in this show. His light touched the lives of many in a loving, positive way, and will continue to radiate. He was a talented guitarist and loved playing with the worship team at the Crossing 929, where with music, his spirit soared. May his Les Paul Specials and Fender Stratocasters play on! Other fun interests included being a fan of Star Wars as well as an enduring Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders Fan. A lifelong learner, he enjoyed diverse authors, from Jill LePore and Jim Harrison to Bill Bryson and Rick Warren.

A natural entrepreneur, industrious and hardworking, he founded Brightside ProWash, where he enjoyed serving his customers and fostering those relationships.

In addition to his immediate family, left to cherish his memory are many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends, and his cat, Mochi. A celebration of his life will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted in his memory to Fishers of Men in Quincy, IL or a recovery program/ministry of one’s choice.

Poignantly, Aedan now emulates the words he wrote in memory of his Grandpa Plonka, “like wings chasing the wind, he soars.”
