Andrew “Skip” Carroll Lewis Jr., 71, of Quincy, passed away at 1:15 pm Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
Skip was born September 27, 1953, in Peoria, IL to Andrew and Joan (Dawson) Lewis. Skip found his lifelong partner in Carolyn Martin, and their marriage on May 10, 1975, was a testament to enduring love. Carolyn remains to honor his memory, alongside their four devoted children, Angelika Smith, Cally Lewis, Candi Lewis, and Andrew Lewis III, all of Quincy. Skip’s legacy continues through his three grandchildren, Sheyenne Patheal (Shadoe Houston), Brett Kaltenbach, and Dakota Lewis, and his two great-grandchildren, Felicity Chandler and Alexander Houston. His brothers, Terry Lewis (Dixie), Kenneth Lewis, Rod Lewis and William Lewis, and his sister, Marilyn Reddick (Kevin), along with many loving nieces and nephews, also survive him. Skip was preceded in death by his parents.
Skip’s early years were marked by his dedication to his country, as he proudly served in the United States Army. Following his service, he pursued his passion for art and technical skills by attending Quincy Technical School for drafting and art education. His professional life was as diverse as his interests, with Skip working as a handyman, general contractor, chef, artist, bartender, and cartman for a golf course. His work ethic and versatility were admired by all who knew him.
Art and creativity were the cornerstones of Skip’s leisure time. He had a remarkable talent for drawing and oil painting, often capturing the beauty of scenic landscapes, rustic barns, and animals with his brush. His love for classic rock music, science fiction literature, and the thrill of NASCAR, where Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Sr. were his favorite drivers, were well known. A devoted sports fan, Skip never missed a chance to root for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Family was the heart of Skip’s world. He cherished the memories made during family trips to Branson and the Ozarks, and he held a special place in his heart for his grandparents’ farm in Barry. Time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was precious to him, filled with laughter and love. His warm presence and the stories of his adventures will continue to inspire and comfort his family and friends.
Burial will be held at Sunset Cemetery in Quincy, IL at a later date.
