Ann known to everyone as AnnieB was born to Ruth (Wennier) and William Bartholomew in Quincy, IL. She went to St. Peter grade school and graduated from Notre Dame High School class of 1964. This was the first class to graduate after returning to all girls.

She then entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in August of 1964, received the habit and her religious name Sr. William Mara SSND, she received her college degree in fine arts from Notre Dame College, in St. Louis, MO. After leaving the convent in 1969 she became department chair at John F. Kennedy Memorial High School in Manchester, MO, teaching there for several years before returning to Quincy.

She reconnected with a high school classmate John Schutte a Christian Brothers High School graduate class of 1964. They were married June 9, 1973 in Quincy College Chapel. Being one of a kind she wore a red dress and her attendant wore a white dress. When they moved to California AnnieB was furthering her career with the Red Cross. They divorced Sept. 20, 1974.

AnnieB dedicated herself to making Red Cross Disaster Services more efficient. She met Greg Johnson and they worked together to develop and automate a comprehensive program to recruit, train, and track all Red Cross Disaster Services volunteers. Their Disaster Services Human Resources (DSHR) System became the gold standard for disaster response across the country.

AnnieB and Greg were married on Valentine’s Day, 1988, and loved spending time together. They both retired at the end of 2008. From that day forward they happily traveled the country visiting friends and family from Virginia Beach to Greg’s boyhood home in Tyler, TX and AnnieB’s hometown Quincy, IL. Their rescue Papillon puppies, Charlie and Pippa were often along for the ride. Greg slipped quietly into eternity on December 6, 2020 after a short battle with cancer.

AnnieB remained at their residence at the Ashby Ponds Continuous Care Retirement Community in Ashburn, VA until Nov. 14, 2023 when a dear friend found her deceased in her bed.
