Charilyn A. Stalder of rural Ewing, Missouri passed away Monday morning August 26, 2024 in Blessing Hospital, Quincy, IL.

She was born at home during one of the hottest summers on record on July 20, 1936, the daughter of Hobart and Elizabeth Shults. She married Joe Jack Stalder on June 16, 1956. He preceded her in death in 1991.

Charilyn attended LaGrange High School and Gem City Business College. She worked as a secretary in Quincy for several years and retired after 25 years as secretary at Highland High School in Ewing, Missouri, where her calm, helpful demeanor, along with her Cougar Pride, was so appreciated. Still wanting to serve children, she became a worker and on site grandmother at the Canton RV daycare for several years. She dearly loved the children she served and made lifelong friends with many parents and coworkers.

Being a grandmother and serving her church and community occupied Charilyn’s retirement years. She was an active member of South Union Baptist Church in Maywood where she served in many capacities: a choir member, a Sunday School teacher, a longtime Vacation Bible School volunteer, GA leader, and church treasurer. The impact she had on her beloved hometown church is immeasurable.
Charilyn is survived by her son Gary (Socorro) Stalder of Las Cruces, NM; son Bill (Brenda) Stalder of Quincy, IL; and daughter Lea Ann (Dennis) Waters of Taylor, MO. Her grandchildren are Seth (Danielle) Waters of Wentzville, MO; Brandon Stalder of Las Cruces, NM; Nick (Taylor) Waters of Palmyra, MO; Bronti (Caleb) Bellah of Farmington, NM; Jaclyn (Jimmie) Musson of Palmyra, MO; Jay Stalder of Los Angeles, CA; Margaret Stalder of Rockford, IL; and Quinn Stalder of Quincy, IL. Great grandchildren include Nolan Waters, Emerson Waters, Rowen Waters, Gwendolyn Waters, Aubrey Waters, Briseis Bellah and Ander Bellah. She is survived by nieces and nephew Jeana Rahe Houchins, Jan (Buster) Geisendorfer, Rick (Anne) Vaughn, and Vickie (Jeff) Fitzsimmons.

Charilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Jack Stalder, her parents, sister and brother-in-law Eileen and Bob Vaughn; and brother and sister-in-law Bill and Elizabeth Shults. She was also preceded by many beloved friends and family members.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the South Union Baptist Church in Maywood, MO with Rev. Wendell Turner officiating. Burial will be in Dover Cemetery, rural La Grange, MO. Visitation will be held Friday, August 30, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the South Union Baptist Church in Maywood, MO.

The family suggests memorials be made to South Union Baptist Church of Maywood, MO or the Dover Cemetery Association in care of Ball-Davis Funeral Home, P.O. Box 273, Ewing, MO 63440
