Charles “Charlie” E. Smith — O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home
Charles “Charlie” E. Smith, 78, of Quincy, passed away at 10:52 am on Saturday, January 4, 2025, in Quincy, IL.
Charlie was born on July 4, 1946, in Hannibal, MO, to Wilford L. and Goldie I. (Moore) Smith. He married Marsha L. Crompton on June 8, 1974, in Quincy, IL. She survives.
Charlie is survived by his three children: Brian “Joe” Fox, Cecil Smith (Mary Ann), and Ellen Wellman (Jerry). He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Rose Smith, and his eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Rodney Smith.
Charlie was very proud to be an employee of Archer-Daniels-Midland Company (formerly Quincy Soybean) for 43 years. Charlie was a competitive horseshoe pitcher. He pitched in numerous horseshoe tournaments, including nationals and worlds. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed talking to people, traveling, and living life to the fullest. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Quincy.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation that will be Friday, January 10, 2025, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL. A graveside service will directly follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy with Pastor Nat Kealen officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.
