Conrad “Smitty” Smith – O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home

Conrad “Smitty” Smith, 85, of Quincy, passed away at 11:09 am Thursday, April 3, 2025, at his home in Quincy, IL.
Smitty was born to Theo (Ted, Smitty) and Lucille (Brassfield) Smith on November 19, 1939, in Quincy, IL, where he grew up surrounded by the warmth of a large and loving family. He met the love of his life, Betty Lou Williams, on a serendipitous camping trip in Alley Springs. They exchanged vows on August 29, 1959, in Centralia, MO, and built a life filled with love and laughter until Betty’s passing in 2019.
Smitty was a proud Quincy High School graduate, class of 1957. His commitment to his country was evident through his service in the United States Army and National Guard. For 45 years, he was a dedicated meat cutter at Kroger Co. His faith was an important aspect of his life, and he was an active member of Faith Assembly of God.
Beyond his professional and military service, Smitty had a zest for life and a variety of interests. He was an avid camper, enjoying the great outdoors from the comfort of a tent or a trailer. His passion for gambling led him to many happy hours at the slots, both at Riverside Casino and in the vibrant city of Las Vegas. At home, he could often be found absorbed in action movies or westerns, or humming along to country and gospel tunes on the radio. Smitty was also a gifted cook, known for his delectable Greek omelettes. Travel was another of Smitty’s joys, with Colorado, Wyoming, Branson, and Florida among his favorite destinations.
However, it was his role as a family man that Smitty cherished most. He was a steadfast supporter of his family, always emphasizing the importance of unity and love. His life was a testament to the power of love, service, and family, and he will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Survivors include his three children, Jeff Smith, Brian Smith (Karen), and Karen Maglioacchetti (John), all of Quincy; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Smith (Allison), Luke Smith, Jake Smith (Kelly), Brooklynn Banta (Nick), Cody Smith (Kristin), Mitch Castillo (Frank), and Wesley Smith (Emma); eight great-grandchildren, Alex, Connor, Kori, Colson, Gracie, Jersey, Raven, and Jet; four brothers, Carroll Smith (Rosemary), Garland Smith (Elaine), Darwin Smith (Donna), Greg Smith (Kathy); his brother in-law, Roger Williams (Roseanne); and his significant other, Barbara Street.
