Dale W. O’Hara — O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home
Dale W. O’Hara, 89, of Quincy, IL, passed away at 8:30 pm Monday, August 19, 2024, at Quincy Healthcare & Senior Living in Quincy, IL.
A Graveside Service will be at 10:00 am Friday, August 23, 2024, at the Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy. Rev. Tim White will officiate.
Dale was born February 21, 1935, in Quincy, IL to Ivan J. and Della (Hild) O’Hara.
Dale graduated from Quincy Senior High in 1953. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Professionally, Dale was a firefighter for the Quincy Fire Department for 22 years, retiring in 1985. Dale also worked with his brother, Buddy on construction jobs as a handyman.
In his spare time, Dale enjoyed shooting craps, and trying his luck at the Mark Twain Casino, as well as various casinos in the St. Louis area, but his favorite gambling destination was Las Vegas, NV. Dale was also a very talented woodworker and enjoyed gifting people things he had made with his hands. Above all, Dale was a very family-oriented man who enjoyed building things for his father when he was traveling and in his younger days getting together with the family every Sunday to watch home movies and classic 1960’s films.
Survivors include his sister, Norma McAllister; his sister in-law, Wanda O’Hara, both of Quincy, IL. Many loving nieces and nephews, and several great and great-great nieces and nephews also survive.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Reda Cleveland; three brothers, Don O’Hara, Jack O’Hara (Shirley), and Ivan H. “Buddy” O’Hara (Patsy); one brother in-law, Ray McAllister; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Quincy Fire Department.
