Daniel Joseph Nuessen — Hansen-Spear

Daniel Joseph “Dan” Nuessen, age 74, of Quincy, died on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at 4:48 p.m. in Blessing Hospital.

Dan was born on June 25, 1950 in Quincy, a son of Carl Herman and Veneta Marie Veith Nuessen. On August 12, 2006 he married Kate Bonebrake in Quincy. She survives.

Dan was a 1968 graduate of Quincy High School, and he attended University of Southern Mississippi. Dan was the co-founder of Quincy Metal Fabricators, along with his brother, David, and their late father, Carl. He had served as President and CEO from the company’s inception in 1982 until his retirement in 2022.

Over the years, Dan had been instrumental in setting criteria for vocational courses offered at John Wood Community College in order to prepare students for high tech industrial positions. Dan served on the board of the Quincy Business and Technology Center, as well as the board of the United Way of Adams County. He had also served on the board of directors of Denman Services and the board for the Architectural Control of Spring Lake Estates Association.

Dan was also a member of Quincy Country Club and a member of Spring Lake Country Club, where he was Chairman of the Hal Barton Memorial Golf Tournament for many years. Dan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters: Bethany (Thomas) Cordes of Chesterfield, MO and Alexis Bonebrake of Quincy; three grandchildren: Henry, Maggie, and Charlie Cordes; his brother, C. David Nuessen of Quincy; a niece, Suzanne (Sern) Nuessen Andersen of Ladue, MO; five nephews: Thomas (fiancée, Olivia Waterbury) Nuessen of Creve Coeur, MO; Brayden Nuessen of Geneva, IL; Jack Henry Nuessen of Chicago, IL; Kenneth Mitchell of Northglenn, CO; and Matthew Mitchell of Bluffton, SC; numerous other nieces and nephews through marriage; and his beloved dog, Ava.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brian Nuessen; a sister, Donna Mitchell; and a brother-in-law, Dirk Bonebrake.

Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024 at St. Francis Solanus Church.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at St. Francis Solanus Church.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Quincy, IL

Memorials: in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Quincy Humane Society, American Red Cross, or Mayo Clinic for Amyloidosis Research.
