David Lee Terwelp, age 79 passed away on February 18, 2025. David was born Dec. 3. 1945 in Quincy, IL. The son of Kenneth A. and Ruth A. (Schmidt) Terwelp.

David attended St. Rose of Lima parish grade school and graduated from Christian Brothers High School. David was a 1966 graduate of Quincy College. After graduation David worked as a teacher in East St. Louis for two years. He then returned to Quincy working for the State of Illinois employment services for two years. David continued to work for the State of Illinois with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DORS) in Sterling, IL. While at DORS he was a very strong advocate for each and every client. After retiring from DORS, David resided in Orlando, FL until recent illness brought him back to Illinois to be with family.

David is survived by his brother, James K. Terwelp (Roseann) of Quincy and a sister Jane R. Wittmer (Wayne) of Quincy. David is also survived by six nieces and nephews: Kathy Terwelp Venvertloh (Dennis), Tim Terwelp (Lisa), Matt Terwelp (Jennifer), Sean Wittmer (Julie), Eric Wittmer(Susan), Cherie Wittmer Frericks (Ron), numerous great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and numerous cousins, including Debbie Terwelp Rutherford (Ron) with whom David was extremely close to while living in Florida.

David was preceded in death by his parents and loving aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Inurnment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 12:00 Noon until the time of the services at 1:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the Quincy Notre Dame Foundation or to the Transitions of Western Illinois. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
