A graduate of Quincy Senior High School in 1974, he went on to honorably serve his country in the United States Navy, a period of his life that instilled in him a profound sense of duty and pride. After his military service, Donald returned to his roots in Illinois, where he embarked on a career that would see him touch the lives of many. As a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Illinois Veterans Home, he provided care and comfort to those who had also served their nation. Later, he continued his journey of service as a bus driver for Quincy Public Schools.

Beyond his professional and family life, Donald had a zest for life that was evident in his many interests. He was an avid bowler, relishing the camaraderie and competition found at the lanes. A lifelong fan of the Cardinals, he never missed an opportunity to support his team at Busch Stadium, his enthusiasm for the game as infectious as it was unwavering. Known for his impeccable cleanliness, Donald took pride in maintaining a spotless environment, whether at home or work. He was also a voracious reader, often found with the newspaper in hand, reading from front to back with interest. And when it came time to relax, he enjoyed the simple pleasure of a good western movie, immersing himself in the tales of the old frontier.
