Douglas “Doug” Olson, age 68, of Quincy, died on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 in his home.

He was born on January 7, 1956, the son of Glen and Frances Louise Noble Olson. He married Deborah “Debbie” Marquardt on June 27, 1981 in Quincy, Illinois. She survives.

Doug was a graduate of Highland High School in Ewing, Missouri. He received his bachelor’s degree from Northeast Missouri State University, and his MBA from Quincy University.

He was employed for many years as a sales coordinator, and later as manager of operations at the Moorman Manufacturing Company. He was the Human Resources Director at Huck Store Fixture Company, served as a financial advisor at Waddell & Reed, and later was the director of HR for the City of Quincy. Doug retired as director of HR at Hollister-Whitney Elevator Corp.

Doug loved being on the water boating with his family and friends. He enjoyed boating on the Mississippi River, at the Lake of the Ozarks, and in Florida. Doug could often be found sitting on his deck watching the boats go by enjoying good conversation with friends and family.
Doug spent time working with his hands to complete various home improvement projects over the years. From rehabbing their home at Lake of the Ozarks, to the many projects for his kids’ homes. He always ensured the cut was correct and the finish was to perfection.

Doug was a huge Missouri Tigers Fan! From a little kid, he enjoyed watching Mizzou Athletics. Doug loved attending Brooke and Brett’s swim meets. He was a master at tailgating for Mizzou football. Waving the tallest flag in the parking lot, while providing for anyone that entered the party. Doug and Debbie were like second parents to all their kids’ friends. So many cherished memories in Columbia.

In the last several years, Doug enjoyed watching the beautiful sunsets on Manasota Key Beach with Debbie. His lifelong goal was to retire at the beach. This goal was met recently with the completion of their new vacation home.
Doug was a devoted family man, and his pride and joy was his three grandchildren. He enjoyed attending their various activities.

In addition to his wife, Debbie, Doug is survived by two children, Brooke (Mike) Spring of Carmel, IN, and Brett Olson of Brentwood, MO; three grandchildren, Caroline, Olivia and Ada Spring; two sisters, Karen Platz of Sequin, TX, and Tammy (Tom) Schroeder of Maywood, MO; a sister-in-law, Susan Bennett of Quincy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
