Dr. Frank Gianfriddo – O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home
Dr. Frank Gianfriddo, 100, of Quincy, passed away peacefully July 17, 2024, at home.
He was born January 9, 1924, in Worcester, Massachusetts, son of Salvatore and Loretta Gianfriddo. He is survived by his wife Reina Patricia Gianfriddo.
Dr. Gianfriddo attended Worcester Teachers College and graduated as an optometrist from Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL. He came to Quincy in 1955 and established his office, Site Vision Center that same year. After retiring, he left his practice in the hands of his son, Dr. Raymond Gianfriddo and his grandson, Dr. Joseph Gianfriddo.
He was a member of Quincy Chamber of Commerce, the Exchange Club, and a Third Degree Knight’s of Columbus. He was a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. Dr. Gianfriddo was also a member of Illinois State Board of Examiners and Arizona State Board of Examiners.
He would often go with his good friend Dr. Carl Hoeffert of Casa Grande, Arizona to visit their good friend Professor Pedro Rivas, head of the Optometry College in Torreón, Mexico. They would help pay for the tuition of less privileged students. Dr. Gianfriddo and Dr. Hoeffert frequently visited their colleague Dr. Jorge Perez of Tequcigalpa, Honduras where they would donate glasses to rural areas.
He served in the U.S. Navy for three years from 1943-1945 on convoy duty and submarine service. He was honorably discharged from the Navy after suffering a back injury.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Vincent, and sisters Lena and Cecilia. In addition to his wife, his survivors include his three children, Dr. Raymond Gianfriddo and his wife Judy, Rhonda Gianfriddo, and Renee McPherson, all of Quincy; grandchildren Jennifer Dolieslager and her husband Erik, Dr. Joseph Gianfriddo and his fiancée Allison Altgilbers, Anthony McPherson and his wife Becca, and Maria Hoskins and her husband Derek; great-grandchildren Keira Dolieslager, Chase Dolieslager, Bella Hoskins, and Bentley Hoskins; one brother, Leo Gianfriddo; and one niece, Dr. Michelle Gianfriddo.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation that will be Monday, July 29, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Quincy, IL. A Funeral Mass will directly follow at 11:00 am with Fr. Steven Arisman officiating. Military honors given by the United States Navy Funeral Honors Guard and American Legion Post #37 will follow the funeral mass.
