Friends and Family are invited to Edna’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Monday, August 12, 2024, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL.

Edna was born September 7, 1941, in Greensburg, PA to Glenn R. and Catherine M. (Terhost) Fligger. She was married to W. F. McMullen on January 9, 2008, in Harlingen, TX. He survives.

Other survivors include her children, Sandra “Sandie” Kroeger (Ed), Jeanette Mock (Ronald), Jean Clow (Robert), and Mary Jo Smith (Homer); her sisters, Donna Newmeyer, Glenda Hodson, Becky Halfhill, Cathy Rulli, and Lori Klauser; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Alfred “Blackie” Black; one sister, Peggy Simmel; and one daughter, Julie Goehl.

Professionally, Edna first contributed her skills as a factory worker at General Electric. She later found her calling as a substitute teacher, where she influenced many young lives with her wisdom and kindness. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she found great comfort and strength in reading the Bible.

Edna’s interests were as diverse as they were passionate. She had a talent for crocheting and sewing, creating countless pieces that will be treasured for generations. Yard sales and thrift shops were her playgrounds, where she found joy in the hunt for hidden treasures. An avid bingo player and word search enthusiast, Edna also shared her love of dance with her square dancing club in Texas, where she lived for many years. Her passion for animals, especially dogs, was a testament to her warm and caring nature.

Her spirit of volunteerism was unmatched, giving her time generously to Valley Baptist Hospital, Shriners Children’s Hospitals, and Blessing Hospital. Edna’s adventurous soul led her to explore the beauty of Alaska and the charm of Ireland, places that held a special place in her heart. Edna’s life was a journey of love, laughter, and service. Her smile and generous heart will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or the Blessing Breast Center.
