Edward George Schuering — Duker & Haugh
Edward George Schuering, age 90, passed away in Saint Louis, Missouri on January 9, 2025. He was born on October 27, 1934 to George and Florence (Hoffman) Schuering in Quincy, Illinois.
He married Carolyn Ann (Belker) Schuering on May 4, 1957 in Quincy’s St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. She preceded him in death in March of 2021. They were active members at St. Boniface parish and later at St Peter parish. Ed worked as a manufacturing engineer at Gardner-Denver until 1994.
Ed loved watching all sports, and he and Carolyn would plan their schedule around QND football, basketball, baseball, and softball, Quincy College basketball and St. Louis Cardinal baseball. They were loyal supporters of all activities that their children and grandchildren participated in–whether it be sports, dance, band or theatre. While Ed loved all things Quincy, he also loved travelling, from the long cross-country car rides with the young children to the overseas trips with Carolyn. Ed used his artistic talents to design latch-hook rugs and to create unique oil paintings. Delivering Meals on Wheels and enjoying meals out with his friends were highlights of his week.
Surviving Ed are his sons: Mike Schuering of Blue Springs, MO; Jim (Karen) Schuering of St. Louis, MO; and Dave (Lisa) Schuering of St. Louis, MO. Ed’s grandchildren are Jessica (Drew) Elwell, Maggie Henke, Steven (MaKayla) Schuering, Kelly Schuering (Ravi Kommajosyula), Lyndsay Schuering (Victor Recalde), Kathryn Schuering, Alex Schuering (Tessa Smith), Annie Schuering, Will Schuering, and Nate Schuering. His great-grandchildren are Quinn Elwell, Reid Elwell, Mason Ridenhour, and Hagen Schuering. Also surviving are his sister Madelyn O’Brien of Edina, MO, a sister-in-law Sandy (Mike) Happ of Columbia, MO, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Laura Henke, his daughter-in-law Becky Schuering, his in-laws Jerome and Helen (Boehl) Belker, his brother Don (Carol) Schuering, and his sister Maxine (Robert) Swain.
The family wishes to thank all the people who gave Ed rides over the years and the amazing caregivers at Good Samaritan Home in Quincy for their loving care the past two years.
