Gary Lee Daggett — O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home

Gary Lee Daggett, 77, of Quincy, passed away at 9:51 am Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
Gary was born May 4, 1947, in Quincy, IL to Roy and Mae (Kindhart) Daggett. He was a proud graduate of Quincy High School, class of 1965. His professional life was diverse, including valuable years at Gardner Denver and Daggett Auto Sales. After retiring, he continued to serve his community as a bus driver for Sunset Home, a role he embraced with kindness and dedication. His commitment to his faith was evident through his active membership at Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ.
On March 4, 1966, Gary married his beloved wife, Carla J. Hamann, at Salem United Church of Christ in Quincy. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Carla survives him, along with their two children, Teena Obert (Charles) of Quincy and Timothy Daggett (Lana Jo Prusinski) of Las Vegas, NV. Gary’s legacy includes five grandchildren, Jerad Obert (Lindsey), Jacob Obert (Kayleigh), Jennifer McCoy (Nick), Ashley Daggett, and Alyssa Daggett; and eight great-grandchildren, Lilly, Pearl, Henry, Vivian, Aiden, Mya, Tyson, and Keyera, all of whom brought immense joy and pride to his life. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Janes (Gib).
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mae Daggett; his in-laws, Lester and Jean Hamann; and three brothers-in-law, Dennis Hamann, John Salsman, and Gary Clapper.
An avid outdoorsman, Gary found solace and excitement in nature. He was an enthusiastic hunter, tracking deer, squirrel, duck, geese, and raccoons with skill and respect for the environment. Fishing was not just a hobby but a passion, with many serene hours spent at ponds and cherished trips to Siloam Springs. The fruits of his hunting and fishing were often shared at fish fries and cookouts, where he delighted in feeding his family and friends.
Camping trips were a highlight for Gary, especially those to Wyaconda and Bayview, Missouri. These excursions were treasured times, creating lasting memories with his family. At home, he raised rabbits and enjoyed friendly games of pitch and euchre. A loyal fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Gary’s enthusiasm for his team was infectious.
Travel was another joy for Gary and Carla, with trips to the Rocky Mountains and celebrating milestone anniversaries in places like Vegas and Hawaii. However, it was the simple pleasures of life-spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren-that Gary cherished the most. His spirit will continue to inspire and guide them, and his memory will be treasured forever.
