Gloria J. Mead — Duker & Haugh

Gloria J. Mead, age 84, of Quincy, IL died on April 9, 2025, at The Arbors Nursing Home. Gloria was born on June 26, 1940, in Quincy, IL the daughter of Wilbur and Florence (Lammers) Schmidt. Gloria married Gerald Mead on August 1, 1959 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He survives.
She was a graduate of Quincy Notre Dame High School. Following high school, Gloria worked as a receptionist, and at the switchboard at Blessing Hospital, later working at Illinois Bell Telephone. She was employed for over twenty years at Sears Roebuck in Quincy Mall until her retirement in 2002. Gloria was of the Catholic faith and was a faithful member of the Church of Saint Peter, where she participated in the Adoration Chapel, the Parsh Picnic, and Bible Study.
Gloria enjoyed spending her time helping others and volunteered at the Salvation Army as well as the Meals on Wheels program. Gloria remained active by swimming, playing racquet ball and volleyball at the YMCA, and dancing. She also participated in exercise classes at Quincy University. She was an excellent baker, a family favorite was her Christmas cookies.
In addition to her husband, Gloria is survived by four children:
Christopher J. Mead of Tampa, FL; Timothy Scott Mead of St. Louis, MO;
Katherine A. Miller of Wright City, MO; and Jonathan (Amy) Mead of Wentzville, MO.
Grandchildren: Ryan Mead, Evan Mead, and Alexis (Danny) Telford, and grand-puppy Haverlee.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents and son, James David Mead in 1961.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Church with Monsignor Leo Enlow officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 10:00 until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Church.
