Funeral Services for Harold Glen White, Sr., 90, of New London, will be 9:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Emmette J. Shields American Legion post 55 in Hannibal with pastor Neil Gottman and pastor Dan Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 1:30 P.M.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the American Legion.
Bienhoff Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. White passed away at 5:39 A.M. Saturday, March 16, 2024 at his home.
He was born September 21, 1933 in St. Louis the son of Flim and Lora Campbell White.
In his early life he attended St. Louis Central High School where he lettered in track and baseball but quit school due to his father’s death. He would later receive his GED and go all the way to achieve his masters in Criminal justice from the University of Indiana.
Harold served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean War. He served as a platoon sergeant, drill instructor, and military police.
He Married the love of his life Patricia Ann Chandler on September 19, 1959 at St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reform Church in Oakville and she preceded him in death on August 13, 2006.
Harold started his Illustrious career as a St. Louis, Clayton, and LaDue police officer. He would then become a field agent for the Missouri Department of Conservation and be promoted to district supervisor. Next becoming an entrepreneur by opening Classic Kitchens. In 1976 he would be elected to Marion County Sheriff and would serve to 1984. Finally, he would be known for his 31 years owning and operating WW Enterprise and Checkmate Pawnshop with his son.
Mr. White was very generous with his time and efforts to his community. He was a past member of the Rotary, Kiwanis, Elks, Moose, American Legion, Mason, Scottish Rite, NEMO Shriners where he served as past president, also past president of Missouri Sheriffs Association, Legislative chairman of the Missouri Sheriffs Association, Governor Teasdale rape Crisis task force, Governor Bond’s commission on crime, White tails unlimited, Quail unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, and National Wild Turkey Federation.
With all his efforts in his community he was gifted many awards in his lifetime with just a few being outstanding wildlife enforcement officer, Hannibal Kiwanis distinguished service award, state American legion award for outstanding law enforcement officer.
Of all his accomplishment and awards Harold was most proud of his family. They include his three children; Beth (Jamey) Simmons of New London, Harold G. “Hack” White Jr. of Hannibal, and Mary ( J.R.) Drennan of Hannibal, eight Grandchildren; Chandler (Meranda Freeman) White of Springfield, MO, Andrew ( Jordyn) White of Hannibal, Preston White of Hannibal, Austin (Sarah) Simmons of Perry, Nash (Ali) Simmons of New London, Loranne Drennan of Hannibal, Robby (Kailea) Drennan of Hannibal, and Sarah Drennan of Hannibal, Eight great grandchildren; Auburn and Amelia Simmons, Tucker and Scout Simmons, Porter and Banks White, Grayson and Griffen Drennan.
He was preceded by his parents, brother Spencer White and sisters Maxine Allan and Mary Stroud.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
