Harold L. Pickinpaugh — Hansen-Spear

Harold L. Pickinpaugh, age 92, of Springfield, Illinois, and formerly of Quincy, passed on Thursday evening April 18, 2025.

He was born on April 3, 1933, in Quincy, a son of Lloyd and Nina Ingles Pickinpaugh. On December 21, 1956, he married Rita Ward in Pekin. She passed away in July 2020.

Mr. Pickinpaugh was a 1951 graduate of Western Military Academy in Alton and a 1955 graduate of Bradley University in Peoria. He served two years in the navy aboard the USS Mount Baker (AE4) in the Pacific. He worked for two years at the Camp Point Motor Co. then worked in sales and as purchasing manager for 26 years at Brower Manufacturing Co. He then worked at First Bankers Trust Co, at the Great River Library and at K’s Merchandise before retiring.

Mr. Pickinpaugh was a member of Vermont Street United Methodist Church. He was Past Master of Benjamin Lodge #297 AF and AM in Camp Point. He was also a member of Quincy Consistory. He was an avid photographer and served as treasurer for many years of the Photographic Society of Quincy. He was a member of Adams County Farm Bureau, served as volunteer for Meals on Wheels and was an amateur radio operator. He was a former member of the Sunset Home board having served as its president. He loved the Rocky Mountains and spent a great deal of time vacationing and hiking there.

Survivors include his daughter, Sherri L. Short and her husband Michael of Springfield, one grandson, Alexander (Alec) Short of Springfield and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Pickinpaugh was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Nina Pickinpaugh and his sister Faye Browne.

Visitation: 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025 at Street United Methodist Church.

Services: 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025 at Vermont Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Rachel Stockle officiating.

Burial: Evergreen Cemetery, Camp Point, IL
