Harvey G. Sloniger, age 92, of Quincy, died on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 1:57 p.m. in his home.

Harvey was born on September 29, 1932 in White Hall, IL, a son of Albert L. and Goldie Henry Sloniger. On July 16, 1968 he married LuAnn Vancil in St. Louis, MO. She survives.

Harvey was a 1950 graduate of Unity High School. He started his career at CB& Q railroad, where he worked from 1948 until 1953. He then served in the United State Army from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1955. After his return to civilian life, Harvey worked for Bell Telephone until his retirement in 1993.

Harvey was a motorcycle enthusiast, and he was a charter member of ABATE IL and a life time Harley Hog member. Harvey enjoyed boating, and he was a member of Twin Oaks Boat Club and Quincy Boat Club. He was also a member of Elks Lodge #100, Quincy Moose Lodge, Rocky Point Club, and Quincy Aeronautics Committee (from 1986 until 1994). In his spare time, Harvey liked to watch football, and his favorite team was the Kansas City Chiefs.

Harvey was of the Catholic faith.

In addition to his wife, Harvey is survived by a daughter, Laura Buss of Quincy and a special son, Bryan (Donna) Smith of Quincy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Mark Sloniger, and his son-in-law, Darrell Buss.

Celebration of Life: 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Kelly’s Restaurant 2902 Broadway St, Quincy, IL 62301, with full military honors at 4:45 p.m. conducted by American Legion Post 37 and the United States Army Funeral Detail.
