Henry Hugh Morrison — Duker & Haugh

Henry Hugh Morrison, 95, a resident of Adams Pointe Assisted Living in Quincy, Illinois and formerly of rural Barry Illinois, passed away on March 3, 2025 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness. He was born on December 16, 1929 to Clarence Dewitt and Mary Caroline “Carrie” Morrison in Quincy, Illinois.

Upon graduation from Liberty High School in 1948, he became actively involved in the family farm making him the fourth generation to work the land originally purchased by Hugh Holmes Morrison in the early 1860s.

On October 7, 1951, Henry married Carol Edwards at Ellington Presbyterian Church. Together they raised their three children and were active in the community with Henry serving on the Adams County Soil and Water Conservation Board, Payson Seymour High School Board of Education, and as a trustee of the Plainville United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masons for 71 years.

Henry and Carol had a passion for travel and exploring different cultures. They traveled independently and Henry meticulously mapped out itineraries to visit more than fifty countries in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. He particularly enjoyed trips to Egypt, Israel, Norway, Sweden, Thailand, Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, and New Zealand. Domestically, they visited all fifty states. He shared this passion with others right up to the end of his life, giving a talk to his fellow residents at Adams Pointe on his travels to South America only weeks before his passing.

He is survived by his wife (Carol) and his sons, Mark (Mary Ann) Morrison, and Jon (Carla) Morrison, and daughter Julie (Oren) Riggs; four grandchildren, Erica Fitzgerald, Christopher Morrison, Patrick (Morgan) Morrison, and Brian Morrison; and eight great grandchildren, Madeline Fitzgerald, Andrew Fitzgerald, Mackenzie Fitzgerald, Amilya Morrison, Claire Morrison, Lane Morrison, Brendan Morrison and William Morrison. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Ruth Chatten, Rosemary Johnston, and Carolyn Uhnken.

The family would like to express their thanks to the Doctors and staff of both the Blessing ICU and Adams Pointe Assisted Living for the wonderful care they gave to Henry during his final illness.

A private service for the immediate family will be held at a later date.
