Inez C. Bailey, 91, of Quincy, passed away at 12:00 pm Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at Quincy Healthcare & Senior Living in Quincy, IL.

Inez was born November 23, 1933, in Marblehead, IL to August and Mary J. (Winston) Smith. Her life was enriched by marriage to Paul C. Guthrie on November 27, 1954, in Quincy, IL. Though Paul preceded her in death on November 24, 1960, their union was blessed with a son, Kevin Guthrie. Inez found love again and married Glen A. Bailey on April 1, 1978, in Quincy, IL, who also preceded her in death on March 23, 2004.

Inez’s family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her son, Kevin Guthrie of Quincy, IL; her granddaughter, Megen C. Trowbridge (Jesse) of Streator, IL; and her sister, Shirley Bowen (Gary) of Canton, MO. Her legacy continues through her step-grandchildren and the many lives she touched. Inez was preceded in death by her husbands, Paul and Glen; her parents; nine brothers, Clifford, Delbert, Thomas, Ralph, Billy, Carl, August Jr., Earl, and James Smith; and four sisters, Celia Cooper, Norma Miller, Mae Goodwin, and Minnie McElfresh.

Professionally, Inez was a dedicated worker at Sunset Home for 8 years before retiring in 1990. She later became self-employed as a house cleaner, a role she fulfilled until her second retirement in 2005. Her work ethic and commitment to excellence left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Beyond her work, Inez was a woman of many passions. She found solace and joy in the beauty of nature, spending countless hours tending to her flower garden and nurturing her rose bushes. Her love for the outdoors was evident in her preference to walk everywhere, a testament to her appreciation for the world around her. Inez’s culinary skills were renowned, especially her ability to create delicious sugar cookies and beautifully decorated cakes. She was also a fan of the Quincy Gem baseball games, where she could be found cheering on her favorite team.

The role of grandmother was one that Inez cherished deeply. She shared a special bond with her granddaughter, Megen, who was graced with Inez’s middle name. Inez was a constant presence at Megen’s events, celebrating her achievements and milestones with pride. Their Village Inn breakfast dates were a cherished tradition, filled with laughter and love. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
