James L. “Jim” Windoffer – Duker & Haugh

James L. “Jim” Windoffer, age 76, of Plainville, IL died on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 in his home surrounded by his family after a recent diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia.
He was born on April 3, 1949, in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Paul and Virginia (Cramsey) Windoffer.
On July 20, 1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Jane E. Schmidt, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. They soon would be celebrating 57 years of marriage. She survives.
After graduating from Payson Seymour High School in 1967, Jim held various jobs, including driving a wrecker for Turner Bros., and later building a dedicated career at Gardner Denver.
Jim spent his life farming, with nearly 15 years dedicated to milking cows. Jim had a deep love for all things Ford- especially his tractors.
He was a lifelong member of St. Brigid Catholic Church.
Jim’s life was deeply rooted in family, farming, faith, and friendship. Nothing brought him greater joy or pride than the love of his family, and he cherished every moment spent with them. In addition to his dedication to farming, Jim enjoyed 30 years of camping with his family and close friends. Jim and Jane also took many memorable vacations to such places as Mackinaw Island, Mount Rushmore, Niagra Falls, Canada, Headwaters of the Mississippi, New Orleans, Smokey Mountains, Rocky Mountains, Branson and many more states. Jim always cherished and embraced the chance to relax and create lasting memories with those he loved most.
In addition to his wife Jane, he is survived by his two children, Kevin (Tina Fisher) Windoffer; and Kelly (Dan) Zanger, all of Payson.
Grandchildren: Tia (Jimmy) Eddy; Austin (Ashleigh) Zanger; Audrey (Taylor) Janssen; Abigail (Dustin) Leach; and Aidan (fiancé Addison Miller) Zanger.
Great Grandchildren: Parker, Payton, Pierce, and Phoenix Eddy; Zeb, Jax, Jed, Bo, Lena, and Declan Zanger; Rhett, Hadley, and Wrenley Janssen, and one great-grandson on the way.
Siblings: Mary Jo (Robert) Martin; Ann Harness; Dave (Linda) Windoffer; Becky (Stanley) Harris.
Brothers and sisters-in-law: Kay Schmidt; Doug (Diana) Schmidt; Debra (Greg) Standley; Bruce (Chris) Schmidt; Shari (Greg) Conrad; Michele Graham; Shela (Clint Knuffman) Reichert; Rita Lentz; and Larry Taute.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Virgina; his father and mother-in-law, Rufus and Germaine Schmidt; a brother, Donald Windoffer; sisters, Kay Smith and Joyce Taute, four brother-in-laws, Ron Harness, Paul Smith, Randy Schmidt, and Jeff Graham.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at Duker and Haugh Funeral Home, with a Mass of Catholic burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Brigid Catholic Church, Liberty, IL, with Rev. Scott Snider.
Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 15, 2025, from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.
