James Leo “Jim” Genenbacher, age 84 of Quincy, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Liberty Village, Pittsfield, IL.

Jim was born in Quincy on April 29, 1940 to Leo G. and Alvina Rose Wellman Genenbacher. Jim married his wife, Jeanie Vaughn Pool, on December 30, 1967. She survives.

Jim attended St. Francis and St. Peters Elementary Schools and graduated from Quincy Notre Dame High School in 1958. He was a graduate of Quincy College, now Quincy University, in 1962 with a degree in business and accounting. He worked for the Park Bowl as Manager and then worked for the Tangerine Bowl for 48 years, retiring in 2012.

Jim was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and Ducks for the Future. He was named Bowler of the Year in 1971. He was an avid Duck Hunter and known for his well-trained Labrador retrievers.

In addition to his wife, Jeanie, Jim is survived by: a daughter, Claire Pool Blackburn and husband, Billy of North Pole, Alaska; one grandson, James Adam Blackburn and his wife, McKenzie Blackburn of Quincy; and a granddaughter, Danielle A. Laffoon and her husband, Eric of Altus, OK; Great grandchildren: Victoria Novack, Jamison, Audra, and Arrow Blackburn; Shaylon, Carter, Braylee, and Bryar Sargent, and two great great grandsons, his brother-in-law, Stephen R. Vaughn of Columbia, MO, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his Uncle Gary, who lived with them when he was growing up and was like a brother to him.

Visitation: 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

Service: 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Solanus Church celebrated by Father Bruce Scott.

Burial: Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hanger Foundation or Blessing Hospice or to charity of the donor’s choice.
