Jay John Maynard – Hansen-Spear

Jay John Maynard, age 63, of Quincy, died on Monday, February 17, 2025 at 4:45 am in Sunset Home.
He was born on June 16, 1961 in Quincy, Illinois, a son of Sarah Jane Phillips Maynard. He married Kendra Coumbes on August, 31, 1991 in the Lutheran Church of St. John, in Quincy. She survives.
Jay was a machinist, foreman, and Machine Department Supervisor at Awerkamp Machine Company during his 49 years of employment. He was also a licensed Pyro Technician, with Fireworks Authority, Inc., and participated in countless fireworks displays in the region over the last 35 plus years, including many annual 4th of July Celebrations at the Quincy Riverfront, Quincy Country Club, Spring Lake Country Club and at Mark Twain Lake.
He was a member of the Quincy Jaycees and worked at the World Free Fall Convention, held at Baldwin Field from 1990-2001. He also traveled with Gordon Bennett Gas Ballon Races. Jay was on the North Side Trap Team and the West Quincy Trap Team. He was an avid deer hunter, and he also hunted turkey and enjoyed fly fishing. He loved his dogs, and had many chocolate labs over the years.
In addition to his wife, Kendra, Jay is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Sergio) Rivera and Sarah Maynard, both of Fayetteville, NC; a brother, James (Susi) Maynard of Quincy; a sister, Jane (John) Baucom of Liberty, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Judith Kay Maynard.
Visitation: 9:00 to 11:00 am on Friday, February 21, 2025 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Service: 11:00 am on Friday, February 21, 2025 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Deacon Dennis Holbrook officiating.
Private Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois
