Jerome P. “Jerry” Herkert – Lummis Hamilton Funeral Home
Jerome P. “Jerry” Herkert, 86, of Camp Point, IL, passed away at 6:32 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2024, at the Timber Point Health Care Center in Camp Point.
Born August 6, 1938, in Michael, IL, Jerry was the son of John and Thelma Hazelwonder Herkert. He married Margie Wyatt on March 7, 1959. She survives.
As a young man, Jerry worked as a barge worker before joining the Illinois State Police serving as an Illinois State Trooper for 30 years until his retirement.
Jerry was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed golfing and fishing but loved a good card game. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Camp Point.
Survivors in addition to his wife are his children, Regina Leeders and Nancy Herkert-Saracino, both of St. Louis, MO, Tracy (Mark) Stephens and Anthony Herkert, both of Quincy, IL, Becky (Bill) Davis, of Mt. Sterling, IL, and Samuel Herkert, Clayton, IL; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; his sister, Alice (Lucky) Hughes, Ormond Beach, FL; two sisters in law, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jack and Gene Herkert; and his son-in-law, Murl David Leeders.
Visitation will be held Tuesday afternoon from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at St. Thomas Hall in Camp Point.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Camp Point by Father Aaron Kuhn. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Camp Point.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church or Fishing for Freedom.
