Jerry Alan Eberhardt, 87, of Quincy, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at University Hospital in Columbia, MO. He was born on October 18, 1937, in Dixon, Illinois, to Archie and Sarah “Sally” Eberhardt.

On April 23, 1960, Jerry married the love of his life, Anita Stupasky, beginning a 64-year journey filled with love, faith, and happiness. They were blessed with a beautiful life, raising five children and cherishing their 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Faith and service were cornerstones of Jerry’s life. His involvement in programs such as: Marriage Encounter, Cursillo, TEC, the National Catholic Youth Conference, and Catholic Heart Work Camp reflected his deep commitment to uplifting others. While at Catholic Heart Work Camp he went cliff jumping in his late 70’s even though he could barely swim. That is just how much faith he had. Of all these, the Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) program held a special place in his heart. Jerry made his first TEC weekend (#36) in 1977, a transformative experience that sparked a lifelong passion. Over the years, he participated in more than 50 TEC weekends, often saying, “It keeps me young.” As a dedicated board member for much of his TEC journey, Jerry found great joy in helping others grow in their faith.

Jerry had a deep love for nature, often spending time watching birds flock to the feeders in his yard—despite his playful rivalry with the ever-persistent squirrels. He was an avid golfer, enjoying rounds with friends, his son-in-laws, and grandsons. Throughout their marriage, he and Anita shared a love for both golf and bowling, creating countless memories together.

Above all, Jerry was a devoted family man. One of his greatest joys was supporting his grandchildren’s athletic endeavors, whether at home or far away. His presence at their games and events was a testament to his unwavering love and pride in his family.

In addition to his faith and family, Jerry was passionate about serving others. He volunteered extensively at Blessing Hospital, where his dedication earned him the prestigious “Volunteer of the Year” award.

Jerry will be remembered for his quick wit, servant’s heart, and boundless energy for the people and causes he loved. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and service that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Anita, their five children, David (Patricia) Eberhardt, Lynn (Dave) Hummel, Pam (Paul) Havermale, Wendy (Steve) Venvertloh, Maria (Shawn) Sparrow.

14 grandchildren, Jason Eberhardt, Samantha (Justin) Casey, Elizabeth (Matt) Bailey, Gregory (Katie) Havermale, Michael (Samantha) Hummel, Matthew (Lauren) Havermale, Zachary (Shannon) Venvertloh, Andrew (Chloe Arnsman) Hummel, Ethan Venvertloh, Stephanie (Reed) Plunkett, Carter Venvertloh, Stella Sparrow and Palmer Sparrow. Bonus family Karen, Genna and Yana Torres and 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Sally Rock and Patricia Brunier, many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Bradley Havermale, his parents, his younger brother, Bill Eberhardt, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, from 4-7 pm at St. Peter Catholic Church, 2600 Maine Street, Quincy, IL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 10 am at St. Peter Catholic Church.

Interment will be at St. Anthony Cemetery and a luncheon following at St. Anthony Catholic Church Hall at 2223 St. Anthony Rd in Quincy, IL.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the TEC program or Catholic Heart Work Camp which were both close to Jerry’s heart.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
