Jerry Hagmeier – Hansen-Spear

Jerry T. Hagmeier, age 86, of Quincy, died Friday, July 4, 2025, at 3:25 pm in Good Samaritan Home.
Jerry was born April 25, 1939, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Melvin and Helen Gabel Hagmeier. He married Barbara “Barb” Wollbrink on December 15, 1962, in Tioga, IL. She survives.
Jerry worked at Gardner-Denver for 16 years, initially in tool design but later moving to the computer department. He also worked for several years at Cummins Engine Company. He later worked 16 years as CAD and computer instructor at John Wood Community College, until his retirement in 2002. He was also an important mentor for the Quincy Public School System. Not being one to sit still for long, Jerry promptly blew his retirement by becoming an active board member of JWCC, serving in many capacities for 12 years, including running the scoreboard for basketball games.
Jerry more than enjoyed music; it was a vital component in his life. He played the saxophone and the clarinet. During his high school years, he played in a school sponsored dance band, playing numerous school dances. He continued his musical exploits in college, joining a small dance band known as “The Red Blazers”. Jerry was also a founding member of the Heidelberg German Band, and played for several years in the Quincy Park Band. He was also passionate about passing his love and knowledge of music on to the next generation by providing lessons to young people.
In his spare time, Jerry was an active member of the Quincy community. He was a longtime, active member of Trinity United Church of Christ. Jerry was a member of the Great River Corvette Club and often attended races at Quincy Race Ways. In his younger years he was a member of the Quincy Jaycees before transitioning to “Exhausted Roosters”. After retirement, Jerry worked as a volunteer at Blessing Hospital and was a member of Breakfast Kiwanis.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Barb, include: three children, Shawn (Kristi) Hagmeier of St. Peters, MO, Cheryl (Gary Keller) Hagmeier of Quincy, and Cynthia (Mike) Warnes of Columbia, MO; three grandchildren, Garrett Hagmeier, Grant Hagmeier, and Gretchen Hagmeier; a brother, Rodger Hagmeier of Strongsville, OH; seven nephews, Doug (Donna) Hagmeier , Tim (Kathi) Hagmeier, Randy (Cindy) Roskamp, Mike (Gayle) Roskamp, Doug (Peggy) Austin, Tim Belden, and Jim (Sandy) Hudson.
Jerry was preceded in death by: his parents, Melvin and Helen Hagmeier; his parents in law, Lester and Evalyn Wollbrink; two sisters in law, Evalyn Roskamp and Jean Hagmeier; three nephews, David (Barb) Roskamp, Dean Austin, and Richard Hudson; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 pm Monday, July 7, 2025, in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Services: 10:00 am Tuesday, July 8, 2025, in Trinity United Church of Christ, with Rev. Tim White officiating. Burial to follow in Greenmount Cemetery.
