Joan A. Drummond — Hansen-Spear
Joan Agnes Drummond, age 86, of Quincy, died on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 1:45 p.m. in Bickford Cottage.
Joan was born on October 21, 1938 in Quincy, a daughter of Claus and Florence Brinkman Kroencke. On October 7, 1961 she married Arthur Frank Drummond in Quincy. He survives.
Joan was a 1956 graduate of Bluffs High School and a graduate of Quincy Beauty Academy. She was the co-owner and operator of Salon of Joan René from 1971 to 1999. Joan then continued her career at Curtis Creek Salon until her retirement at the age of 77. Joan was a member of Central Baptist Church, where she was active in Co-builders Sunday School class, the Bell Choir, the Chancel Choir, and was a past trustee and president of the decorating committee at Central Baptist Church. She truly enjoyed her involvement with her church.
In her spare time, Joan enjoyed restoring antiques. She found satisfaction in fixing up old furniture and objects, carefully repairing and refinishing them to bring out their original beauty. She had numerous talents, including being a wonderful seamstress, making beautiful flower arrangements, decorating and so many more. Joan enjoyed her time as the Director of the Miss Adams County Fair Pageant for numerous years. She was a volunteer in the Blessing Hospital Tea Room where she spent time making flower arrangements. Joan enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, and especially loved time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who held a special place in her heart.
In addition to her husband, Frank, survivors include two children: Venita (Steven) Hood of Panama City, FL and Bryan (Penny) Little of Quincy; three granddaughters: Kelsey (David) Mercer of Panama City, FL; Lacey (Andrew) Corrigan of Quincy; and Casey (Zachary) Scharnhorst of Quincy; four great-grandchildren: Kai and Ellie Mercer of Panama City, FL; and Vincent and June Corrigan of Quincy; a brother, Eugene Kroencke of Bluffs, IL; two sisters: Delores Robinson of Quincy; and Marjorie Lashbrook of East Saint Louis, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Dorothy Schwieter, Juanita Hibbard, and Maureen Rene Schwengel; a brother, Kenneth Kroencke; and a step-sister, Louise Buchanan.
Visitation: 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Service: 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Ivan Greuter officiating.
Burial: Quincy Memorial Park, Quincy, IL
Pallbearers: Andrew Corrigan, Zachary Scharnhorst, David Mercer, Don Howerter, Bill Wilt, Jason Allen and Steve Hood (Honorary).
