Judie Rae Jenkins — Hansen-Spear

Jenkins-Judie

Judie Rae Jenkins, age 81, of Quincy, died on Friday, November 29, 2024 at 4:53 am in Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri.

Judie was born on December 3, 1942, in Moberly, Missouri, a daughter of Ray and Leota Courrier Lawrence.

Judie started her career in service at the ice cream counter at Deters Dairy, after she graduated high school at 17. She then worked at Stipp’s Lounge on south 6th street before spending time working with her mother in Florida. Judie returned to Quincy, to be close to family, and started her 48 year career as a waitress at the Coach House.

Judie’s unwavering work ethic and exceptional customer service made every guest of the Coach House feel like family. Whether you were a regular customer or on your first visit, Judie’s warm smile, attentive service, and genuine care were a testament to a time when service was personal and heartfelt.

Judie took pride in her appearance and was meticulous about having her nails and hair done. She had a great sense of humor and zest for life, and she didn’t know a stranger because she would make friends wherever she went.

When her children were young, Judie was active in the PTA and became the District 8 Director of the National PTA for several years. She loved going to sporting events to support her children and grandchildren, and continue to go and watch them throw darts as adults. She was a huge Quincy Gems fan, and never missed a home baseball game. Judie was devoted to and loved her family dearly.

Judie had a huge heart and took in stray kids that needed help in the form of food, a temporary place to stay, or any need imaginable. There was nothing she wouldn’t do to help someone in need. Her love and care led to her being known as “Grams” and “Mimi” to so many in the community whose lives she impacted with her generous heart and spirit.
Survivors include her three children, Todd (Stacey) Wombles, Tammy Sprinkle, and Tiffany Minor (Jeff McMillan), all of Quincy; eight grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Josh) Shannon, Jordan Stovall, Danyelle Sprinkle, Kelsey Whitaker, Mayci Minor, Brandon Werneth, Brittney Werneth (Shane), and Taylor Stovall; seven great-grandchildren, Lillianne and Declan, Kamery and Kaelin, Vince, Owen Mason, and Phoenix; a sister, Bird Wombles; two nieces, Marci (Gary) Musolino-Mayes and Jami Musolino (Jamie); two great-nieces, Madison and Skylar; and numerous bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Judie was preceded in death by her parents, and two grandsons, Spencer and Max Wombles.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2024 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at the Quincy Eagles Club (3737 N. 5th Street).
