Judith A. Gadeke – O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home

Gadeke-Judith

Judith A. Gadeke, 86, of Quincy, passed away at 1:04 pm Monday, July 8, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Judith was born February 23, 1938 to Charles W. and Dorothy (Datz) Kasten. Her journey began in the city of Pittsburgh, where she was a standout student at Allegheny High School, graduating third in her class. Her pursuit of knowledge continued as she graduated John Wood Community College and Western IL University, laying a strong foundation for her future endeavors.

On December 29, 1956, Judith married the love of her life, Tex Gadeke, in a beautiful ceremony in Pittsburgh. Their love story was one for the ages, having met on the Fourth of July in Virginia Beach, VA 67 years prior. Tex remains to honor her memory and celebrate the life they built together.

The legacy Judith leaves behind is rich with love and accomplishment. She is survived by her devoted children, Kirk W. Gadeke of Fowler, IL, and Jill L. Townley (Bruce) of Portland, OR. Her three grandchildren, Mitchell W. Gadeke (Morgan) of Quincy, Alexis R. Reese (Kayne) of Spring Lake, NC, and Garrett M. Gadeke of Quincy, will carry forward her spirit of kindness and generosity. Judith’s joy was multiplied with the arrival of several great-grandchildren, who brought immense happiness to her later years. Judith was preceded in death by her parents.

Professionally, Judith’s career was marked by dedication and service. She began as a Secretary for Pittsburgh Public Schools, where she honed her organizational skills and attention to detail. Later, she found her calling at Faith Presbyterian Church, serving as their secretary for over 35 years. Her commitment to her work was evident in the countless lives she touched through her role at the church.

Judith’s interests were a reflection of her gentle soul. She was an avid bird watcher, finding peace in the simple beauty of nature. Her love for her cats was well-known, as they were not just pets but members of her family. A voracious reader, Judith considered the library her best friend, always eager to embark on new literary adventures. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and as a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, she found both solace and joy.

Judith will be deeply missed by all who knew her, yet her spirit will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.

The family will host a memorial service on Monday, July 15, 2024, at 10:00 am at Faith Presbyterian Church. Doctor Tom Dickerson will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to Nebraska Children’s Home Society in Omaha, NE or Faith Presbyterian Church.
