Karen Louise Shires Davidson — Hansen-Spear
Karen Louise Shires Davidson, age 84, formerly of Quincy, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024, in the home of her daughter in Bloomington, Illinois.
Karen was born on April 15, 1940, on the family farm in Ewing, Missouri, a daughter of Roscoe and Genevieve Herzog Shires. She had been married to Lester E. Gaus, and had two daughters from this union, Tina and Tonya. She later married Roger D. Davidson on April 15, 1980. He preceded her in death on October 16, 1989.
Karen graduated from Mendon High School, Mendon IL and Quincy Beauty Academy, Quincy IL.
She was previously employed by Motorola, Quintron, Quincy Medical Group, Gardner Denver and was employed by Edy’s Grand Ice Cream as a merchandiser-reset specialist working for her son-in-law Tom. (To keep him in line)
She enjoyed spending time at her family farm, mowing, mushroom hunting, and fishing. She took great pride in her flowers and garden to keep them weed free. She enjoyed sewing and making quilts, crocheting and crafts. Karen was an avid collector of Boyd’s Bears. In later years, she enjoyed doing word search puzzles and watching game shows. She cut her nephew’s, grandson-in-law, and great grandson’s hair until the age of 80.
Her greatest enjoyment came from cooking and spending time with her family and her four-legged companion Fannie Mae. She was known for homemade pies, noodles, and her fried chicken. She had a sweet tooth and enjoyed cookies and candy and the grandkids and great grandkids always knew where her candy bowl was and it was never empty.
She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Survivors include her two daughters, Tina (Tom) Powers of Bloomington, IL, and Tonya Duncan of Palmyra, MO; six grandchildren, Ashley (Matt) Bockhold of Quincy, Canady (Sean) Brand of Stanford, IL, Declan (fiancé MacKenna Duncan) Powers, and Colm Powers, both of Bloomington, Ethan (Alyssa) Duncan, and Zavion (Morgan Robinson) Duncan, both of Dix, IL; bonus grandchildren, Matt (Cathy) Powers of Highland IL, and Jenny (Scott) Jenkins of Lees Summit, MO; nine great-grandchildren, Kaiser and Kellyn Bockhold, Parker and Colsen (due in January 2025) Brand, and Ryder, Sawyer, Kasyn, Jamey and Amelia Duncan; eight bonus great-grandchildren, Logan and Layna Powers, Brynn and Beau Battas, Maddox and Harper Hayden, and Zach and Ava Jenkins; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Roger, Karen was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter Makenna Mabie and twin great-granddaughters , Gwendolyn and Ellison Bockhold, a brother, Milton Shires, and two sisters, Fern (JE) Johnson and Faylene (Ray) Turner.
Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, November 8, 2024 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Service: 10:00 am on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Burial: Dover Cemetery, La Grange, Missouri
