Katherine “Kathy” Calvin — O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home

Katherine “Kathy” Calvin, 63, of Quincy, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
Kathy was born January 5, 1962, in Quincy, IL to Wayne and Virginia (Usherwood) Maggart. On November 7, 1987, she married the love of her life, Loyal “Scott” Calvin, at Bethel Assembly of God in Quincy. Their 37-year union was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Scott remains to honor her memory, along with two wonderful children, Amanda Rose (Alex) and Cory Calvin. Kathy’s love multiplied with the arrival of her seven grandchildren, Caleb Rose, Connor Rose, Sophia Rose, Lucas Calvin, Izaiah Calvin, Dorian Clay, and Abra Clay, who were the apples of her eye. Her family circle was wide and full of affection, including her siblings Jeanette Winn, Barbara Winfield (Jim), Diane Stamper (Floyd Sr.), Robert Maggart, Debbie Grootens (Kevin), and Bev Lang. Kathy is also survived by her mother-in-law, Maria Calvin, sisters-in-law Donette Jones, Amanda England with husband Keith, and Judy Griggs, and a host of nieces and nephews who will all cherish her memory.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; one sister in-law, Angie Boll; three brothers in-law, Gordon Griggs, Kevan Griggs, and Rex Winn; her mother and father in-law, Donald Calvin and Bertha Colleen Calvin; and two nephews, Floyd Stamper and Rick Calvin.
A proud graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1980, Kathy dedicated many years of service as a waitress at various local establishments, including Quincy Country Club, Kelly’s, and Mr. Bills. She concluded her professional life at Quincy University, where she worked at Chartwell’s, always serving others with a smile.
Kathy’s interests were as varied as they were passionate. An ardent sports fan, she cheered for the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears, the Arizona Cardinals, and the Michigan Wolverines. Her culinary skills were unmatched, with her spaghetti, lasagna, and shepherd’s pie becoming family favorites. An animal lover at heart, Kathy cared for over 25 cats and dogs throughout her life. Her cats, Pickles and Pumpkin, and her Staffordshire Terrier, Angie were the most recent furry companions to enjoy her affection.
Kathy’s generosity knew no bounds, as she selflessly cared for her parents in their later years. She found solace in the pages of mystery and romance novels and cherished the family’s trips to the Ozarks, especially the Al Hana Resort. Yet, it was the simple pleasures at home that Kathy valued most-waking up early to see her son off to work, enjoying quiet moments with Scott, or watching sports and western movies with a cat on their laps.
Above all, Kathy’s world revolved around her family. She adored every opportunity to surround herself with her husband, children, and grandchildren, and her presence was a source of comfort and joy to them. Her memory will be held dear in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
