Larry Edward Godar, 83, of Overland Park, KS, formerly of Shawnee, KS, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Silverado Memory Care in Overland Park, KS.

Cremation was accorded to Larry. A private Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Quincy, IL. Fr. Tom Donovan will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenmount Cemetery.

Larry was born June 6, 1941, in Hardin, IL to Norbert T. and Mary J. (Becker) Godar. He married Mary Samios on July 2, 1966 in the former St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Quincy, IL. She survives.

In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by his two children, Kim Glyshaw (Mark) of Des Pere, MO, and Shawn Godar (Jennifer) of Shawnee, KS; five grandchildren, Kayla Rupprecht (Scott), Noah Glyshaw, Josiah Glyshaw, Jack Godar, and Madelyn Godar; one great grandson, Ryder Rupprecht; two brothers, Francis Godar, and Roger Godar; and two sisters, Delores Fuhler, and Marilyn Fuhler.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Norbert T. Godar Jr.; and two sisters, Geneva Breden, and Virginia Robeen.

Larry received his degree in accounting from Gem City Business College in Quincy, IL. After graduation, he proudly served his Country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After completing his military service, Larry went on to work at Celotex Corporation as a supervisor for 40 years until his retirement in 2003.

In his spare time, Larry enjoyed watching classic westerns such as Gunsmoke and John Wayne films. Most often when the TV was on, Larry was usually passionately cheering for his favorite teams, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Kansas Jayhawks. He was also an avid outdoorsman and loved going camping, hunting on the family farm, fishing, and working in his garden. Larry cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, as well as his beloved dogs.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Great River Honor Flight.
