Leslie Clark Sprague — Hansen-Spear
Leslie Clark Sprague, age 75, of Plainville, IL, died on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 9:05 p.m. in St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN.
Les was born on June 11, 1949 in Quincy, a son of Paul C. Jr. and Bessie L. Dingerson Sprague. On July 17, 1976, Leslie married Paula J. Ray in Quincy. She preceded him in death on September 5, 2003.
Les was a 1967 graduate of Payson Seymour High School and a graduate of Western Illinois University. Les began his career at House Farms in Payson, IL. He was then employed as a product designer for many years by Moorman Manufacturing/ADM in Quincy, where he was instrumental in the production of the “Save A Man” feed mill. Most recently, Les was the facility minister at Madison Park Christian Church, where he was also a member.
Les was a master carpenter and woodworker. He built the two homes in which he and Paula had lived. He built furniture and gifts for his extended family. He and Paula made homemade crafts, and they enjoyed going to craft shows. Les was also a member of the Bluebird East Central IL Society. He was named the 2019 Bluebird Leader of the Year.
Les used his talents to serve the Lord through his church and through his community. He worked on many projects at Lamoine Christian Church camp, and he built shelters in Homestead, FL after Hurricane Andrew.
Les enjoyed baseball, and his one and only favorite team was the St. Louis Cardinals, which is a love that is continued by his son and grandchildren.
Survivors include: his son, Lt. Col. Kyle C. (Jessica) Sprague; three grandchildren: William Lincoln, Rosemary Vivian, and David Thomas Sprague; two brothers: Melvin C. (Susan) Sprague and Douglas P. (Lisa) Sprague; two sisters-in-law, Deana Bond and Myrna (Jay) Myer; nieces and nephews: Andrew Bond, Peter (Lindsay) Bond, John Paul (Amanda) Sprague, Thomas (Tara) Sprague, Luke (Katie) Sprague, Matthew (Lexi) Myer, Marcus (Jessa) Myer, Mitchell (Chelsi) Myer, Alison Bond, Sarah (Tyler) Uptegrove, and Michael (Melissa) Sprague; a cousin, Cathy Latimer; and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his wife, Paula, Les was preceded in death by his parents, and his parents-in-law, John A. and Vivian M. Ray.
Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2024 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Service: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Ehresman officiating.
Burial: Stewart Cemetery, Plainville, IL
