Lester D. McClain, 90, of Quincy, passed away at Quincy Healthcare & Senior Living Center on Friday, December 27, 2024, in Quincy, IL.
Lester was born February 25, 1934, in Columbus Township, IL to Otis and Freda (Helmridge) McClain. He graduated from Camp Point High School in 1952, setting the stage for a life of commitment and hard work. Lester proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany for two and a half years, where he gained experiences that would shape his character and worldview.
Upon returning home, Lester’s path led him to the love of his life, Patricia Ann Williams. They united in marriage on August 18, 1963, in Quincy, IL, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams. Patricia survives him, carrying forward the legacy of their partnership.
Lester’s professional life was characterized by his role as a Purchasing Agent at Illinois State Bank for 28 years, followed by his time at Boatmen’s Bank of Quincy. His dedication to his work was paralleled by his commitment to the community, as evidenced by his 50+ year tenure as the secretary for the Northside Business Men’s Association. Lester was also a devoted member of Luther Memorial Church, where he found spiritual solace and fellowship.
Beyond his professional and community service, Lester was a man of diverse interests. He was an avid baseball fan, loyally cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals through every season. Lester found pleasure in the simple things, whether it was playing slots at the Mark Twain Casino, watching his favorite game show “The Price is Right,” or enjoying a hearty meal of catfish or roast beef at O’Shea’s or Elders. His love for conversation was unmatched, and he cherished the moments spent catching up with friends and loved ones. Lester’s appreciation for nature and the outdoors was evident in his leisurely drives by the river and the hours spent tending to his lawn or relaxing on his porch.
Family was the cornerstone of Lester’s world. He is survived by his wife, his two sons, Brian McClain and Brad McClain (Alicia Earnst), and his cherished granddaughter, Madison McClain, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. Lester was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Freda McClain; his brother, Otis McClain Jr.; and his sister, Wilma McClain. He touched the lives of many and will be remembered for his generous spirit, his unwavering loyalty, and his enduring love for his family.
