Lois Maxine Acker – Hansen-Spear
Lois Maxine Acker, age 97, of Quincy, formerly of Taylor, MO, died Wednesday, September 11, 2024, in Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Lois was born June 14, 1927 in Warsaw, Illinois, the daughter of Daniel Arthur and Savannah Coovert Gooding She married Marshall Ray Acker on September 5, 1944 in East Peoria, Illinois. He preceded her in death on April 2, 2000.
Lois was a graduate of Warsaw High School and went on to attend Gem City Business College. She had worked for Warsaw Community School District, Ursa Farmers Co-op, Wickes Lumber, Best Buy Home Care and Bergner’s Department Store. She was a member of Vermont Street United Methodist Church where she was active with the United Methodist Women and the Double Ring Sunday School Class. She enjoyed volunteering with the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary. Lois was a 4-H Leader for eight years in Hancock County and two years in Marion County. She enjoyed cooking, baking, quilting, listening to music and tending to her roses.
Survivors include: four grandchildren, Carol Sue (Jack II) Curtis, Kathie Jo (Chris Byers) Palmer, Thomas Ray (Janis) Howard, and Cindy Lou (Christopher, CWO 04 – Retired USMC) Robertson; Seven great grandchildren, J.C. Curtis III, Brittney (Nick) Phillips, Abbygail (Sonny Hollis) Palmer, Christopher Howard, Jennifer Howard, Madison (Dan) Doby, and Christian Robertson, LCpl USMC; five great great grandchildren, BriAnna, Chandler, Addison, Jeremyah, and Christopher; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
In addition to her husband, Lois was preceded in death by: her parents; two daughters, Sylvia Sue Caldwell and Karen Lee Howard; a grandson, Joseph Ray Caldwell, five brothers, Vernon Gooding, Elmer Gooding, Donald Gooding, Kenneth Gooding and Raymond Gooding; and two sisters, Twila Smith and Mary Roth.
Visitation: 9:00 am – 11:00 am, Saturday, September 21, 2024, in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Services: 11:00 am Saturday, September 21, 2024, in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Rachel Stockle officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Warsaw, IL.
