LOYD JACK JARVIS

Loyd Jack Jarvis, age 85, of La Grange, MO died Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL after a short illness.

He was born on June 14, 1939 in Macomb, IL, a son of Everett Earl Jarvis and Mary (Frakes) Jarvis. He married the love of his life Margaret Wolfmeyer on November 30, 1963 in La Grange, MO. She survives.

Jack spent his childhood growing up in Colchester, IL, before finishing his last 3 years of school at Western High School in Macomb, IL. His love of sports developed during these years and stayed with him his entire life, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Shortly after high school Jack had a tryout with the Cincinnati Reds, but before receiving word that they had offered him a minor league contract, he had already joined the U.S. Army, where he served as a paratrooper and mail clerk for 3 years. Jack did have the opportunity to continue participating in athletics after his service, most notably with the well known Ozark National FastPitch Softball Team, where he roamed centerfield for many years. Once his playing days were over, he loved supporting his children and grandchildren in all of their endeavors, but especially in the many sports that they excelled at.

Jack is survived by his wife Margaret Jarvis of La Grange, MO; two sons, Kevin Jarvis and wife Robin of Canton, MO; Darron Jarvis and wife Heather of Canton, MO; four Grandchildren, Remington Jarvis of Columbia, MO; Alexander, Olivia, and Abigail Jarvis of Canton, MO; brother, James Jarvis of Tucson, AZ; sister, Chere Steiner and husband Lyle of Milan, IL; siblings in law, Shirley Schramm of Lexington, KY, Alice Estes of Lakeville, MN, Marvin Wolfmeyer of Winona, MN, and Leroy Wolfmeyer of La Grange, MO as well as numerous nieces and nephews. There is no doubt that he thoroughly enjoyed sharing stories (whether slightly fabricated or not) at the many family reunions and holidays.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his infant brother Charles Jarvis; his sister Melody Heacox; and an infant son.

Family and friends are invited to a gathering of remembrance with Military Honors on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at 2;00 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery in La Grange, MO.
