Margaret Alice Weinand — Hansen-Spear
Margaret Alice Weinand, age 76, of Quincy, died on Monday, October 28, 2024, in Blessing Hospital.
Margaret was born on November 6, 1947, in New Burnside, Illinois, a daughter of Samuel and Toni Hart Heaton. She married Ronald Weinand on June 1, 1968, in Mt. Sterling, Illinois. He survives.
She was raised in Mount Sterling, Illinois and met Ronald at pharmacy school. Margaret went to work as a proofreader at the Quincy Herald Whig, when her children were old enough to be in school. She was also president of Weinand Militaria.
Margaret was an excellent bridge player and enjoyed playing bridge at the Quincy Senior Center and the Women’s City Club. She was a member and past president of the Women’s City Club, a member of the Corvette Club, the Quincy Kennel Club, and the Pike-Adams Sportsman’s Alliance. Margaret was an excellent shot and enjoyed going to PASA Park in Barry for target practice.
She enjoyed taking cruises and took many river cruises on the Mississippi Queen and the Delta Queen. Her cruises included a trip to Europe, and most recently a cruise to Alaska. Margaret loved taking pictures, and she submitted many photos to local coView Postntests. She has won awards for her photography. She also adored her cats.
Above all, Margaret loved and was devoted to her family, and she took pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, Ronald, include her two children, Laura Weinand of Quincy, and Chris (Carrie) Weinand of Mt. Sterling, IL; three grandchildren, Flinn, Nevaeh and Mason Weinand; two brothers, Dan Heaton of Savannah, IL, and Jim (Susan) Heaton of Chicago, IL; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cats, Mirka, Yeti, and Maita.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Polli Reische.
Visitation: 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Service: 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Pastor Andre Harper officiating.
