Martha Ann Jones Reich – Hendricker Funeral Home
Martha Ann Jones Reich, 80, a resident of the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois and formerly of Mt. Sterling, Illinois and Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away at 6:56 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
She was born April 13, 1944 in Quincy, Illinois the daughter of Newton and Lois Price Jones. She married Vernon H. Reich on July 1, 1966 at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Sterling, Illinois and he survives.
Mrs. Reich attended Bell Country School, North and South Grade Schools and graduated Valedictorian from Brown County High School with the class of 1962. She received her Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1966 and was a member of Alpha Tau Delta Professional Nursing Sorority. Martha received her Masters of Science in Social Work Degree from the University of Tennessee in 1978. She became certified in Social Work and helped obtain licensure for Social Workers in Tennessee, becoming among the first to be grandfathered in as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 1984.
Mrs. Reich was a Public Health Nurse at the Knox County Health Department, a nurse/family therapist at Overlook Mental Health Center, the largest mental health center in the state covering five counties, where she was a Senior Clinical Supervisor of Intermediate Care and the Quality Assurance Coordinator. She maintained a private practice, was a Field Instructor for the Graduate School of Social Work, a Hospice Volunteer, a Healing Touch Practitioner in Spiritual Ministry and worked with animal rescue. Martha enjoyed the outdoors, hiking in the mountains, lake and white water canoeing and working with animals. She is survived by her husband and partner, Dr. Vernon H. Reich, who was a professor in the Plant and Soil Science Department at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, for 36 years. He was also a Master Tax Advisor for H & R Block at the Cedar Bluff Premium Office where he served as Office Manager. She is also survived by her brother-in-law and wife Dr. Robert and Ann Reich of Quincy, Illinois; three nieces and their families, Angela and Lawrence Richter of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Dr. Abby Reich and Brian Miller of Quincy, Illinois and Alicia and Jeff Crowe of Town and Country, MIssouri; two grandnieces and a grandnephew, Emily Asmann, Jack and Lauren Miller of Quincy, Illinois. She had two sisters-in-spirit who were lifelong friends, Charlotte Redmond Denight of Jacksonville, Illinois and Roselyn K. Jensen, deceased.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Pastor Charla Meyers officiating. A Nurse Honor Guard service will also be conducted at this time.
Burial will follow in the Cooperstown Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice.
