Mary E. Wuestenfeld — Hansen-Spear
Mary Ellen Wuestenfeld, age 92, of Quincy, died on Friday, July 5, 2024 at 5:55 pm in Blessing Hospital.
Mary was born March 18, 1932 in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Stanley and Ava Buell Hibbard. She married her husband of 72 years, Dale Wuestenfeld, on March 6, 1952 in Quincy, Illinois. He survives.
Mary was a 1950 graduate of Quincy High School and a graduated in 1952 from Gem City Business College. She worked for a time at the Adams County Highway Department and Doane Agricultural Service. Mary spent 20 years at Blessing Hospital as a Unit Secretary, until her retirement in 2000. Mary made friends easily and had many lasting friendships from her time at work and volunteering. She had a beautiful spirit and always tried to make people happy.
Mary was a long-time member of Trinity United Church of Christ, where she served a president of the Women’s Guild and as secretary of the Fireside Club. She was part of a women’s group called the “Sweet Adelines” that sang at various event and had fun singing after their official practice.
Mary was comfortable in the kitchen and enjoyed preparing fresh tomato salsa, bread and butter pickles, and canning peaches. She was always on the lookout for new recipes to try. She enjoyed needle point, word puzzles, and holding her great-grandchildren. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her husband, Dale, Mary is survived by a son, Kenneth Wuestenfeld and his wife Brenda of Sherman, TX; a daughter-in-law, Karen Wuestenfeld of Quincy; grandchildren, Kelly, Joe, Lee, Jamie, Kent, Julie, Jennifer and Raechel; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, three children, David, Kay and Robert Wuestenfeld, three brothers, Stanley, Donald, and Eldon Hibbard, and two sisters, Margaret Vahlkamp and Maxine Jenkins.
Visitation: 9:00 to 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Trinity United Church of Christ.
Services: 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Trinity United Church of Christ, with Rev. Timothy A. White officiating.
Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois
