Maurice P. Ormond, 77, of Timewell, Illinois, passed away on June 29, 2024, at his residence. Born on April 8, 1947, in Quincy, Illinois, he was the son of William and Ruth H Klingele Ormond. Maurice married Karla Fagan on September 11, 1971, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling, and she survives.
A graduate of St. Mary’s Academy (Class of 1965), Maurice served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968, primarily stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. He dedicated 51 years to farming, cherishing family and farm life. His grandson, Eli, held a special place in his heart and their favorite place was anywhere together on the farm.
Maurice was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling and a past member of the Timewell Lion’s Club and the Timewell American Legion Post #1074. He was a classic car enthusiast who enjoyed restoring and driving his 1969 Camaro. Maurice cherished time with family including playing pool, fish fries and many family vacations – especially those spent in Florida and Hawaii.

Survivors include his wife, Karla of Timewell. 3 children Heather Buxton (Curt) of Mt. Sterling, Brandon Ormond of Champaign-Urbana and Brenna Tomlinson (Trey) of Quincy. 1 grandson, Eli Brandon Tomlinson. 1 brother John Ormond (Carolyn) of Mt. Sterling. 2 sisters Rosanne Ray (Jim) and Elaine Schrieber all of Mt. Sterling. A brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ed and Diane Fagan of Cerritos, California. A close niece, Sue Ray of Mt. Sterling also survives along with 10 additional nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son in infancy , Damon Ormond, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Bob and Annetta Fagan, 1 brother in-law Marvin Schrieber, and 1 niece Amy Ormond Lucky.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2024 in the Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Aaron Kuhn officiating.
Burial will follow in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
Memorials are suggested to the Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice or St. Mary’s School.
