Michael “Mike” G. Vilsick – Duker & Haugh
Michael “Mike” G. Vilsick age 75, of Quincy, IL died on Friday, November 1, 2024, in Blessing Hospital.
Mike was born in Quincy on March 29, 1949, a son of George R. and Patricia M. “Patsy” (Kipping) Vilsick. He married Rita Burton on September 25, 1975 at Quincy College Chapel. and she survives.
Mike graduated from St. Rose Grade School, then graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1967 and Quincy College in 1971. He began his working career as a teacher at the former St. Mary Grade School, and from there was a union member of Local #1 Heat and Frost Insulaters where he was a journeyman /mechanic from 1979-2011. Mike was a member of the Sons of the American Legion of Appleton, WI.
He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
Mike was a history aficionado, with a love of American History, especially the Civil War era. He was a man of simple pleasures and was both a trivia and crossword expert.
In addition to his wife Rita, survivors include his children, James M. (Cindy) Vilsick and Mary Kathryn Vilsick Flaherty and her husband Matt. Grandchildren: Lucy B Vilsick, and Theoren Vilsick. Nieces and Nephews: Jason (Cindy) Kamphaus, and their children, Gemma, Izzy and Lily, Anne Burton, Brendon Burton, Seamus Burton, Damian Greenwell, Tamara Greenwell, and Darwin Greenwell. Grandniece, Maryann Burton, Brother and sister-in-law, James (Carol) Burton, Father Bill Burton, O.F.M. and Leeann Burton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Mary J. Vilsick Kamphaus and Susan “Hope” Vilsick Greenwell.
A Memorial Mass will be announced at a later date.
Private graveside services are planned with interment in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Pasa Park in Barry, IL for the Building Fund or Qunicy Notre Dame Class of 1967 Scholarship Fund.
