Schutte-Norma-Jean

Norma Jean Schutte, 91, of Quincy, passed away at 3:05 pm Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Sunset Home in Quincy, IL.
Norma was born December 5, 1933, in Quincy, IL, to John and Josephine (Deters) Wensing. She was married to Kenneth Schutte on June 14, 1952, in Quincy, IL. He preceded her in death on July 9, 2013.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Norma’s legacy lives on through her four children, Debra Morrison, Sandra Chatten, Jennifer Underwood (Shawn), and Kenneth Schutte (Brenda Snodgrass). Her five grandchildren, Elizabeth Jackson (Matt), Bonnie Chatten, Kimberly Colamatteo (Anthony), Brandon Burnett, and Joshua Schutte, as well as her four great-grandchildren, Gabriella Chatten, Paige Colamatteo, Sofia Burnett, and Kenny Burnett, will forever cherish the memories and lessons she imparted. Norma was the heart of her family, and her love and guidance shaped the lives of those she touched. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, her parents, one son-in-law, Frank Chatten, four sisters, and one brother. Each person played a significant role in her life, and their memories will be held close in the hearts of those who loved them.
Norma’s professional life was characterized by her dedication to serving others. She worked in the cafeteria for Quincy Public Schools at Baldwin School, retiring in 2004 after many years of faithful service. A woman of faith, Norma was a dedicated member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Quincy and Holy Sprite Catholic Church of Centralia, MO where she found solace and Community.
Norma’s interests were as varied as they were passionate. With a green thumb that could make any plant flourish, she took great pride in her garden, filled with vibrant flowers that reflected her own colorful spirit. Her talent for upholstery was unmatched, as she breathed new life into furniture with her skilled hands. A culinary enthusiast, Norma’s casseroles and desserts were the highlight of family gatherings, and her canning skills preserved the taste of summer for the colder months. An avid reader and fan of the Hallmark channel, Norma found joy in the simple pleasures of a good book and heartwarming stories. Yet, above all, her greatest joy was found in the company of her friends and family. Whether she was making cherished memories during visits to Columbia and Centralia, MO, or simply sharing a meal at home, Norma’s presence was a source of comfort and happiness. Her memory will be a treasure held dear.
Inurnment will take place at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
