Patricia Ann Schulman – Hansen-Spear
Patricia Ann Schulman, 77, of Quincy, IL, formerly of Houston, TX died July 16, 2024, at Blessing Hospital.
Pat was born September 16, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY, a daughter of Julius and Cecelia Liona. After a Catholic school education, Pat went on to graduate from Saint Clare’s Hospital School of Nursing, New York, NY in 1966. She met her husband, Marty, in January 1967 through mutual friends on the ski slopes of Vermont. They married on March 24, 1968, in Brooklyn, NY and celebrated 50 years of marriage on March 24, 2018.
They had their first daughter, Lori, in 1971 and moved to Baltimore shortly after, due to a company transfer for Marty. In 1972, they had their second daughter, Debbie. In 1976, Marty had another company transfer and the family settled down in Spring, TX, a suburb of Houston. Pat was a Registered Nurse at Houston Northwest Hospital in Spring, TX where she worked until her retirement in 1995. After retirement, Pat and Marty enjoyed traveling together, in addition to welcoming the birth of two grandsons, Cade and Cody, before health issues slowed them down. They moved to Quincy, IL in March 2015 to live with their daughter, Lori, and her husband, Gary.
Pat enjoyed attending her daughter’s sporting events, weekends at the lake or beach, camping, collecting antiques, bowling, crafting, cross-stitching, working on her tan, reading and puzzles. She was known best for her love of antiques, New York, Neil Diamond, red wine and for her humor and kind-hearted sarcasm.
Pat is survived by two children, Lori (Gary) Bagley of Quincy, and Debbie (Rob) Hanlen of Houston; two grandsons, Cade Hanlen and Cody Hanlen; a sister Marian (Johnny) Cicarelli, a sister Helen (Len) Doohan, a brother Ken (Winnie) Liona, a brother Ed Liona, sister-in-law, Pinky Liona and one brother-in-law, Stanley Schulman along with several nieces and nephews who knew her as Aunt Patty. She was preceded in death by her husband Marty, her parents and one brother, Walter Liona.
The family thanks Pat’s daytime caregiver Summer Allen. Without her help Pat could not have lived at home for the past three years. Thanks to Kelly Purdom who helped with Pat’s care on Saturday mornings. Also special thanks to the Blessing Hospital 6 North nursing staff and Blessing Hospice for their loving care and kindness in Pat’s last days.
Pat was cremated per her wishes. There will be no services; her family will celebrate her life privately.
