Patricia L. Gaines – O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home

Patricia L. Gaines, 87, of Quincy, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at her home in Quincy, IL.

Patricia was born January 17, 1938, in La Grange, MO to Virgil F. and Dorothy (Loudermilk) Schaffer. She married James Lloyd in 1958, and they later parted ways. She was married to Donald E. Gaines on December 27, 1971, in Canton, MO. He preceded her in death on January 13, 2001.

After graduating from Canton High School in 1956, she pursued her passion for beauty and style by attending and graduating from Quincy Beauty Academy in Quincy, IL. Patricia’s entrepreneurial spirit led her to own and operate beauty shops in LaGrange, Canton, and even from her country home near Canton.

A woman of faith, Patricia was an active member of the Madison Park Church, where she found solace and fellowship. She also participated in the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), contributing her time and energy to the organization’s mission.

Patricia’s affection for her cats was well-known, as she found comfort and companionship in their presence. However, it was her family that truly captured her heart. Patricia was a constant figure at her grandchildren’s sporting events, cheering them on and providing unwavering support. Her love for travel took her to Oregon, Washington, and Texas, where she relished the time spent with various family members.

Patricia’s legacy lives on through her devoted children, Deborah (John) Weisheit of Hurst, Texas, Barbara (Rob) O’Dear and Nancy (Joe) Dreyer, both of Quincy, IL, John (Carrie) Gaines of Greencastle, MO, and Cindy (Eldon) Walter of Riverside, MO. She was the proud grandmother to twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy. Her love extended to several nieces and nephews, who will remember her fondly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; three brothers; three nieces; and one nephew.

A visitation will be Friday, January 24, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Madison Park Christian Church in Quincy, IL with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am. Pastor Keith Ehresman will officiate. Burial will follow at Quincy Memorial Park in Quincy, IL.
